HEAD, TECHNICAL PRODUCTION
ESPLANADE THEATRES ON THE BAY — 2021-Present

Kenny returns to the Esplanade to lead the Technical Production department. 

EVENT TECHNICAL CONSULTANT
NS SQUARE — 2020-2025

The iconic Float@Marina Bay is to be redeveloped as NS Square, which in addition to being an amphitheatre for 30,000 spectators will also house community sports facilities, such as a swimming pool and water sports centre, as well as a new waterfront promenade that will improve pedestrian connectivity in the area, forming a loop around Marina Bay, as well as a National Service focused gallery.

TECHNICAL ADVISOR
WILD RICE @ FUNAN — 2018-2019

After close to two decades of creating home-grown theatre for audiences in Singapore and around the world, WILD RICE will finally have its very own theatre at Funan. In collaboration with CapitaLand, this state-of-the-art theatre complex, which includes studios and offices, is located in the very heart of Singapore’s civic and cultural district.  Envisioned by Founding Artistic Director Ivan Heng and Executive Director Tony Trickett, the complex has been designed by an award- winning team, including leading Singaporean architecture studio Zarch Collaboratives and renowned international theatre design consultancy Charcoalblue. Kenny is proud to be part of the team in his advisory capacity.

VENUE CONSULTANT
SCHOOL OF THE ARTS (SOTA) — 2010-2011

Singapore’s School of the Arts (SOTA) is an arts-focused secondary school housed in an architecturally stunning custom-built facility in the centre of the city. Kenny was brought in to adapt the 3 theatres (concert hall, theatre & studio) within the complex from a solely for-school-use venues to a commercially viable arts centre. In addition to re-specifying equipment, he also worked with the school to develop a workable business and operations model.

 

MEMBER OF STEERING COMMITTEE
REFURBISHMENT OF VICTORIA THEATRE & CONCERT HALL — 2010-2011

As a member of the steering committee with a focus on theatre facilities and equipment, Kenny worked with the development team from the National Arts Council to prepare the brief for the re-furbishment of the much loved Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall. He was also involved in the selection of the architects, theatre &  acoustic consultants. 

 

TECHNICAL THEATRE CONSULTANT
LASALLE COLLEGE OF THE ARTS — 2009

When LASALLE College of the Arts moved into their new city campus, the 3 performance venues were not equipped due to funding challenges. Funding was obtained eventually and Kenny was appointed to equip the 3 venues and to ensure that they were operationally ready.

TECHNICAL CONSULTANT
HAMLETMACHINE; THEATRE TRAINING & RESEARCH PROGRAMME  — 2005

The final production project of the 2007 graduating students of the Theatre Training & Research Programme (TTRP) - now the Intercultural Theatre Institute - was a cross-cultural production under Japanes director, Uichiro Fueda working with the graduates from 7 different countries. This production was performed in a found space, which is a disused workshop. Kenny was appointed Theatre Consultant to make the space suitable for public performance with minimal impact to housed the production. He also acted as Technical and Design Advisor to the young design and production team.

 

PRODUCTION MANAGER
ESPLANADE THEATRES ON THE BAY — 1997-2004

Kenny was the Esplanade’s first Production Manager. He worked closely with Theatre Projects Consultants (UK) to ensure that the Esplanade theatre complex become a facility that was production-friendly. In addition to pre-opening planning and the establishment of the art centre’s Production Services department, he was also production manager for the Esplanade’s Opening Festival. He also took on the role of managing the Concert Hall’s variable acoustics, as well as developing training programmes at the Esplanade.

THEATRE CONSULTANT
THEATREWORKS’ 72-13  — 2003

72-13 is a creative space converted from an old rice warehouse. The main space within is a ‘Whitebox’ performance/gallery space which is accompanied by smaller gallery spaces. Kenny was brought into the project as Theatre Consultant, working closely with Artistic Director, Ong Keng Sen and architect Kerry-Hill to create a unique space where performances and the visual arts meet.

 

SOUND & LIGHTING CONSULTANT
SINGAPORE PAVILION; EXPO 2005 AICHI JAPAN— 2004-2005

Kenny was part of the design team responsible for the Singapore Pavilion at the 2005 Expo in AIchi, Japan. The pavilion housed multi-sensory experiences populated with items like interactive trees, glass leaves, indoor rain, a paper dress, a multi-media mass transit station, performance niches and grand staircase. It also transported visitors to a virtual day in SIngapore.
